History

The great state of Texas, The Lone Star State, became a state December 29th, 1845. It got its nickname when it became independent from Mexico following the Battle of the Alamo. This is when they declared their independence and formed the Republic of Texas. But to protect the people more from Mexico, the United States acquired it. The Alamo is located in what is now the capital, Austin, Texas. Many years before this, the first people to settle in the state were the Native American tribes, followed by the Spanish settlers.
